House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) nasty plan has been exposed.
Politico reports that Pelosi and her fellow Democrats are plotting to push a number of far-left policies through the House over the next couple of weeks.
“During a private meeting with her leadership team Monday night, Pelosi laid out plans to turn her chamber the next two weeks into a factory for Democratic priorities,” Politico reported Tuesday.
The outlet continued: “They’ll move everything from election reform to a policing overhaul to gun control, plus women’s and union rights and a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers.”
It’s already happening
Pelosi put her plans into action on Wednesday when the House passed the so-called “For the People Act.” Also known as H.R. 1, the measure looks to make national and permanent many of the voting rule changes that were made ahead of the 2020 election.
According to Breitbart, H.R. 1 “prevents states from limiting early voting” and from limiting voting by mail, it “requires all states to provide free mail-in absentee ballots,” and it “requires all states to allow same-day voter registration.”
On the gun control front, a piece of legislation was recently introduced that would require universal background checks for all gun purchases, but the measure wasn’t brought up for a vote.
Two other proposed gun reform measures “call for licensing of all gun owners, psychological evaluations for gun owners, mandatory liability insurance for gun owners, the registration of all firearms, the registration of all ammunition, and a seven-day waiting period on all semiautomatic firearms purchases, among other things,” according to Breitbart.
Democrats have also reportedly been pursuing police reform legislation, a measure to enact a $15 per hour federal minimum wage, and a bill to give amnesty to the millions of illegal aliens currently living in the United States.
With a majority in the House, Pelosi and Democrats will likely have little trouble pushing these measures through the House. The problem for Dems — and the saving grace for Republicans — is the Senate, where Democrats are tied 50–50 with the GOP and hold the majority only because Vice President Kamala Harris casts the tie-breaking vote.
With a 60-vote threshold needed to pass most legislation through the upper chamber, Democrats will need the support of at least a handful of Senate Republicans to get these bills to the president’s desk. Dems had been looking to get rid of the filibuster and lower the threshold to 51 votes, but Sen. Joe Manchin, a moderate Democrat from West Virginia, has vowed not to let that happen.
For now, the radical proposals that Pelosi and company are pushing through the House seem doomed to fail. But that doesn’t mean they won’t keep dreaming.
