Wednesday evening, Florida Republican Matt Gaetz blasted Democrats for passing H.R. 1.

Gaetz tweeted:

For all their accusations about Republicans harming Democracy, House Democrats have jeopardized the legitimacy of every future U.S. election by passing H.R. 1.

It erodes the verification process in voting, literally banning state-enacted photo ID safeguards. (1/4)

House Democrats apparently think voting is less worthy of identity protection than boarding aircraft or buying cigarettes. (2/4)

Election fraud should be investigated, not legitimized through the provisions of this legislation that legalize ballot harvesting and ensure a growing, unmanageable universe of mail ballots. (3/4)

If Democrats were serious about cleaning up Washington, they would not have blocked a vote on my amendment to ban campaign contributions from lobbyists and special interest PACs. (4/4)

Meanwhile Stacey Abrams wrote:

Voters in Georgia and across the country have suffered from state-sponsored voter suppression for too long. With tonight’s passage of HR 1, we will be closer to ensuring our elections will be fair and free—no matter your skin color or zip code.

Americans of all political stripes should be proud of our Democratic delegation for ensuring that from Savannah, GA to Maricopa County, AZ to Milwaukee, WI—we have the same opportunities to make our voices heard. Let’s get it done.
