The “public is fed up” after Marxist, Hamas-sympathizing state legislators advanced their latest round of gun-grabbing bills akin to efforts in California.
With a federal failure as their guiding star, Democratic lawmakers in Colorado are attempting their own ban on so-called assault weapons as one of many of a slew of erosions of the Second Amendment.
Speaking out against the latest efforts, a local firearms instructor decried the bills being used as “blueprints” to skirt the Constitution if Americans don’t unite against the schemes.
“This should be making national news as it doesn’t just impact Colorado, but the nation as a whole,” said Colorado Springs firearms instructor Ava Flanell to Fox News Digital. “Lawmakers are using these outrageous bills as blueprints, changing the state names and implementing them across the country at a state level because they don’t have the votes to do it nationally.”
“Last year, it was Washington where they all passed, and the laws are decimating gun stores without a single positive impact on crime. Today, it’s Colorado. These same bills will show up in other states tomorrow if we don’t come together as a whole to fight this,” the owner of Elite Firearms & Training added.
Along with the bill sponsored by Democratic Reps. Tim Hernández and Elisabeth Epps that bans the “manufacturing, importing, purchasing, selling, offering to sell, or transferring ownership of a A̶s̶s̶a̶u̶l̶t̶ Defense Weapon,” in the state, Colorado legislators have sought to impose an 11% tax on gun and ammo sales, increase standards for concealed handgun training, mark more “sensitive” areas as gun-free zones, prohibit school staff from carrying firearms and require liability insurance for owners.
Hernández had previously become the face of leftist lunacy in the wake of the Oct. 7 terror attack in Israel when he had opined about the savage acts committed against the men, women and children there, “What about it?”

Communicating with other law-abiding gun owners, Flanell detailed how “the public is fed up with the state’s push to enact further gun control measures.”
“The so-called ‘assault weapons’ ban bill is the most concerning, but they all have tragic consequences for law-abiding citizens. The ‘assault weapons’ bill is incredibly deceptive. They want to ban not only every kind of ‘scary gun like ARs and AKs, but also 80-90% of semi-automatic firearms popular today, including handguns and shotguns,” she explained and noted some restrictions, like on popular muzzle brakes that aid female shooters and those with physical limitations or less upper body strength in handling recoil, would put innocents at risk.
Sexual assault survivor, Antonia Okafor, the founder and president of the nonprofit firearm education group EMPOWERED, told Fox News Digital, “After seven years of training women, it is abundantly clear that women prefer an AR-15 for the defense of their home, their family and themselves.”
“Despite the anti-gun rhetoric pushed by the media and gun control organizations, the AR-15 allows women to have a larger firearm without having to physically absorb as much recoil as a smaller, handheld firearm. The AR-15 makes it easier for those who have a physical disadvantage to have an upper hand against an attacker and creates a larger perimeter of protection,” she added. “Simply put, a firearm levels the playing field.”
Previously, California had been called out for efforts to restrict the Second Amendment. Similar bills to those in Colorado had faced pushback, including the “sensitive” areas prohibitions deemed unconstitutional, but the state had managed to impose an 11% tax on guns and ammo.
Likewise, Washington state had passed its own so-called assault weapons ban and set a 10-day waiting period for purchasing a gun.
Meanwhile, the Colorado bill defined a A̶s̶s̶a̶u̶l̶t̶ Defense Weapon as a “semiautomatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine, or that may be readily modified to accept a detachable magazine,” and includes an array of other characteristics including “any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand.”
“Twenty-nine states currently have constitutional carry,” asserted Flanell as she challenged the logic of gun grabbers. “While over 50% of the country recognizes the Constitution, states like Colorado are going backwards. Our homicide by firearm rate has surpassed the national rate for the first time in over 40 years, while states who have passed constitutional carry are seeing a decrease.”
