The free speech video platform Rumble is making moves to protect the First Amendment with its new Rumble Cloud service.
Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski told Fox Business that Rumble values “freedom of expression and the First Amendment.” Pavlovski explained that Amazon Web Services’ previous cancellation of alternative social media Parler drove Rumble’s decision to start Rumble Cloud, shielding businesses from Big Tech censorship.
Pavlovski explained that after seeing how easily Amazon Web Services cancelled the free speech social media app Parler, Rumble sought an alernative. “When we saw that happen, we took it upon ourselves to make sure that could never happen to a platform like Rumble,” he said. “After that moment, we realized that it was very important for us to … start owning our infrastructure, and start owning our own servers.”
Amazon’s decision seemed to pose an “existential threat” not just to Parler but to Rumble, Pavlovski continued. “And not only did we think that Rumble just needed it, but we felt like a large part of America wants something that inherits the same kind of values that they have,” the CEO continued. “We’re all about American values, and sticking with American principles.” Thus businesses can now switch from traditional providers to Rumble Cloud.
Rumble Cloud promises multiple features including affordable pricing and, perhaps most importantly, none of the “viewpoint discrimination” present in Big Tech providers like Amazon, Fox Business reported. Rumble users include people across the political spectrum, from Democrats to Republicans to independents.
Pavlovski explained that a user’s political background does not matter to Rumble. “The idea is we’re not going to cancel someone based on any political bias whatsoever,” he told Fox Business. Whether they’re a religious university, or whether they’re not, we’re not going to discriminate against any customer based on political pressure or political biases, etc. That’s what I see the Parler situation had. It was due to political pressure and biases at the time.” Rumble vows not to follow suit.
