Democrats wanted Trump in a courtroom for a reason.
Their lawfare drew first blood.
And Donald Trump learned terrible news about this guilty verdict.
Democrat Judge Arthur Engoron completed Democrat New York State Attorney General Letitia James’ partisan persecution of Donald Trump by slapping Trump with a $355 million judgment in the sham civil fraud case James brought to fulfill a 2018 campaign promise to use her office to investigate Donald Trump.
Despite the fact that there were no victims in this case and bank executives all testified Trump was a valued customer who paid his loans on time, Engoron punished Trump for – what critics alleged basically amounted to – being Donald Trump.
In his decision Engoron claimed Trump repeatedly committed fraud despite the fact that no one ever presented any evidence of Trump actually defrauding anyone.
“After some four years of investigation and litigation, the only error (‘inadvertent,’ of course) that they acknowledge is the tripling of the size of the Trump Tower Penthouse, which cannot be gainsaid. Their complete lack of contrition and remorse borders on pathological. They are accused only of inflating asset values to make more money. The documents prove this over and over again. This is a venial sin, not a mortal sin. Defendants did not commit murder or arson. They did not rob a bank at gunpoint. Donald Trump is not Bernard Madoff. Yet, defendants are incapable of admitting the error of their ways. Instead, they adopt a ‘See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil’ posture that the evidence belies,” Engoron wrote.
Trump lawyer Alina Habba blasted Engoron’s preposterous ruling as the criminalization of politics as Democrats weaponized the justice system to steal Donald Trump’s wealth and freedom.
“This verdict is a manifest injustice – plain and simple. It is the culmination of a multi-year, politically fueled witch hunt that was designed to ‘take down Donald Trump,’ before Letitia James ever stepped foot into the Attorney General’s office. Countless hours of testimony proved that there was no wrongdoing, no crime, and no victim,” Habba wrote.
Habba vowed that Trump would appeal and that the appellate court would step in and right the obvious wrong that Engoron inflicted on Trump and the entire state of New York as every business owner is now on notice that opposing the Democrat Party now comes with the penalty of having the government empty your bank account.
“Given the grave stakes, we trust that the Appellate Division will overturn this egregious verdict and end this relentless persecution against my clients,” Habba added.
“Let me make one thing perfectly clear: this is not just about Donald Trump – if this decision stands, it will serve as a signal to every single American that New York is no longer open for business,” Habba concluded.
