Speculation is swirling that there’s something nefarious going on, after Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin announced Friday, March 22, that he is leaving Congress on April 19, instead of finishing out his term.
Gallagher’s departure leaves Republicans with a razor-thin majority, and the timing of his announcement is causing even more alarm.
If Gallagher would go ahead and leave Congress now, there would be time for the state of Wisconsin to hold a special election, and another Republican could be elected to fill the remainder of his term. The deadline for a special election to be called is the second Tuesday in April, which would be April 9.
But, oh no, Gallagher is not leaving until April 19 – which means his seat will be left vacant for the remainder of the year, leaving Republicans helpless t fill the seat.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham sounded the alarm during her show on Friday.
Ingraham declared, “This pains me to say this: Thanks, Mike. Hope future Speaker Hakeem Jeffries sent you a nice fruit basket today. Now, how else are people supposed to interpret this move except a spiteful and maybe some kind of revenge play?”
“And they think Trump is the problem? At least he stays in the arena despite what they’re doing to him,” Ingraham declared.
She also noted that Gallagher has indicated he won’t even be attending the Republican National Convention, which is happening in his home state.
In addition, Republican Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado also announced he is retiring early, which forced Rep. Lauren Boebert to make the difficult decision of not running in the special election for his seat, as she would then not be allowed to run for the seat in the November election.
Ingraham blasted the fleeing Republicans, and warned the GOP is committing political suicide.
WATCH THIS:
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court threw out an attempt by Colorado to kick Trump off the ballot, saying that the “Constitution makes Congress, rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates.”
Trump ally Roger Stone is claiming that’s exactly what some in Congress are attempting to do. Stone alleged there is a plot underway to hand the House over to the Democrats so they can pass a law to ban Trump from the November ballot.
Troy Smith wrote in Slingshot News, “Once Mike Gallagher departs on April 19th, the House Republican majority will have shrunk to just 217, the bare minimum needed to advance legislation in the body. As it stands, the Republican Party is just one retirement away from losing their majority in the House, and once again handing unilateral control of Washington D.C. to the Democratic Party and Joe Biden.”
Smith also sounded the alarm about Paul Singer, a billionaire hedge fund manager who supported Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in his 2016 presidential race, and then dumped $5 million into Nikki Haley’s now-failed campaign in December. Now that Haley has dropped out, some are speculating that Singer is behind a plot to get Republicans to leave Congress, so Democrats can take over the House before the election.
Singer has donated heavily to Gallagher over the years. In fact, Smith noted, “There is only one Republican that has retired, or is retiring prior to the 2024 Election that hasn’t taken money from Singer.”
“It’s no secret that Paul Singer has been working to undermine Donald Trump since he first came down the Trump Tower escalator on June 16th, 2015. Could he be spearheading the mass retirement of GOP officials heading into 2024, ceding control of the House to the Democratic Party, and setting up Trump to be removed from the Presidential ballot prior to the election?” Smith asked.
Responding to the report by Slingshot News, Roger Stone wrote, “And….as I predicted yesterday, billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Singer is the funder of the RINO plot to hand the House over to DEMS so they can pass a law prohibiting Trump from being on the presidential ballot, exactly as the Supreme Court invited them to do.”

In an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Sunday, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) gushed over the possibility that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries might become Speaker of the House if more Republicans leave Congress.
.@jrpsaki: “Could you see a scenario where Democrats take the majority even before Election Day?”
.@SpeakerPelosi: “Hakeem will be next and soon… The disrespect for the Republicans in the Congress with the departure of these Republicans takes them to a precarious place.” pic.twitter.com/nf2nMw6C08

Aaron Fritschner, deputy chief of staff for Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), cheered, “WOW! Like Buck, Mike Gallagher carefully timed his departure. Under Wisconsin law, congressional vacancies occurring “prior to the 2nd Tuesday in April” in an election year get filled on a faster timeline. An April 19th resignation will keep Gallagher’s seat vacant until November.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also blasted Gallagher’s exit timing.
“Mike Gallagher’s extremely selfish decision to leave Congress early and push us towards a Hakeem Jeffries speakership should not be allowed to happen. Mike Gallagher should be expelled so the people of Wisconsin’s 8th District can have a special election to replace him,” she declared.

“Yes he should be expelled if he refuses to leave immediately in order to allow his district to hold a special election to elect a representative so that their district can have a voice for the remainder of the 118th Congress! Leaving after the deadline is intentional betrayal,” Greene added.

Conservative podcaster Benny Johnson warned, “House GOP started their term with a narrow minority. They kicked George Santos out. Ken Buck resigned. Now Mike Gallagher is leaving. If our elected representatives don’t get their act together FAST, we could witness a Democrat takeover of Congress. You cannot understand how bad this would be for America.”
