Pelosi said Thursday suggested that Democrats will fight for a commission to dig deeper into the January 6th Capitol riot.
House Minority leader Mitch McConnell has indicated he wants to broaden the scope of the investigation into other acts of political violence.
“If Congress is going to attempt some broader analysis of toxic political violence across this country, then in that case, we cannot have artificial cherry-picking of which terrible behavior does and does not deserve scrutiny,” McConnell said.
Pelosi said during a press briefing in the Capitol “we had an event on Jan. 6, which I’m sure the world has not forgotten.
“And so we’re saying, ‘OK, something happened here. It’s about domestic terrorism,” she continued. “We want to solve this and I will do anything to have it be bipartisan so … that it would be well-received by the American people. But if we’re talking about scope and saying, ‘Well, we’ve got to go and look at all mob [violence]’ — it’s the Ron Johnson school of Jan. 6 investigation as to seeking the truth. And that’s most unfortunate.”
