Kathryn Limbaugh, the widow of Rush Limbaugh, announced Monday she is organizing a virtual memorial service for the late radio host which will take place in the coming weeks.
“We are in the initial stages of planning a celebration of life that will be able to be viewed by all of the audience and friends and extended family at some point in the near future. We don’t have an exact date just yet, we’re working on some of the logistics,” said Kathryn.
She appeared on “The Rush Limbaugh Show” Monday with guest host Mark Steyn where she discussed how she and Limbaugh met and took calls from callers who shared their impressions of the legendary host.
“We had somebody who could help us feel the words he was saying, and then we could put that to our everyday life. He made us feel like he was us,” said one caller.
Limbaugh died on Wednesday, Feb. 17, of complications as a result of lung cancer. He was 70.
He hosted the eponymous show from 1988 to January 2021, over the years becoming the nation’s most-listened-to radio host.
Former Vice President Mike Pence and former President Donald Trump paid tribute to Limbaugh.
“There aren’t too many legends around, but he is a legend,” Trump said during a call on Fox News last week.
“He had tremendous insight. He got it, he really got it,” he added later.
Trump recalled awarding Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his State of the Union Address in February 2020, saying Rush called the award “the greatest honor of his life.”
“Rush was very sick at the time. He was at a hospital in Boston … It was a very difficult thing for him to come into Washington from where he was, and he did it,” Trump said.
“His ambition was to hold out until after the election,” Trump said. “And he worked so hard and he missed very few shows … he worked so hard to get through the election, and he was just great. He made it.”
“He loved this country so much,” Trump said. “He loved the people of this country so much.”
