Rep. Lauren Boebert railed at Democratic lawmakers who complained about her display of personal firearms visible on a mantle behind her during a Zoom meeting, with one complaining that he didn’t feel safe.
The back-and-forth stemmed from a House Natural Resources Committee meeting in which members attended virtually last week.
“If somebody wants to have a shrine to their gun fetish as a Zoom backdrop in their private life they can do that,” Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) complained at one point during the meeting.
“But this is our hearing room and at some point, we’ll all start showing up in person and our safety and our ability to conduct business civilly without feeling threatened is a relevant consideration,” he added.
At no point did Boebert threaten anyone or suggest she be allowed to carry any of the visible firearms on her person while in the House chamber, though she has pushed to carry a concealed handgun in Washington and on Capitol grounds.
After ripping “the left’s disdain for the Constitution” in an interview with Fox News, she went on to address “creeps” like Huffman.
“Rather than have a productive debate about policy — I have more than 55 percent federal land in my district in Colorado — I wanted to talk about Democrats’ overreaching policies and their land grabs and closing off our beautiful rivers here in our district, but Democrats were too busy mocking the Constitution and disrespecting the everyday Americans that I was elected to represent,” Boebert said.
“Just look at how I’ve been treated by the fake news and by creeps like Rep. Jared Huffman. He was literally looking like Jiffy Pop. He fashioned a tinfoil hat during my remarks,” the freshman lawmaker said before accusing him and other Democrats of being the real “conspiracy theorists.”
Another California Democrat, Rep. Katie Porter, also complained about Boebert’s gun display.
“I always thought my dirty dishes piled up and accumulating bacteria were the most dangerous thing in a Zoom background,” Porter wrote on Twitter with the hashtag #SafeStorage.”

To that, Boebert responded: “It’s kind of alarming that she has so many dishes in her sink collecting bacteria. Do your dishes, Hon.”
She went on to decry the panel’s debate over banning the display of firearms during virtual meetings and suggested that Democrats would seek to limit other rights as well.
“How about the Nineteenth Amendment? Can women vote in this committee?” she asked. “Why does anyone think that they can cherry-pick the Second Amendment and say this is the one enumerated right that we can take away from people?”
“Why stop with the Second Amendment?” she added. “Let’s go ahead and quarter soldiers in this committee room. There’s plenty of soldiers in the parking garage at ‘Fort Pelosi’ in Washington, D.C.”
