Report: Ted Cruz, Wife Traveled to Cancun, Mexico As Texas Suffers Winter Wrath

The state of Texas is dealing with a disaster the likes of which is unprecedented for the state, and one which it is not used to.

The Lone Star State is suffering crippling cold, snow, icy roads, power outages, and water outages and residents expect all hands on deck to help them.

But an unverified photo began circulating on Twitter on Wednesday night that purported to show Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, his wife Heidi, and their children boarding an aircraft headed for Cancun, Mexico, Mediaite reported.

Photos of Ted Cruz emerged on Twitter that purports to show the Texas Senator flying to Cancun, Mexico to escape the brutal and dangerous cold spell causing blackouts in his home state of Texas. The images were shared on Twitter on Wednesday night, while millions of Texas residents are currently without power as dangerously low temperatures wreak havoc.

Arctic temperatures in Texas have caused dangerous power outages across the state, as much of the state’s electrical grid appears to have collapsed due to a variety of reasons. According to a CBS News report, there are 24 deaths so far related to the winter storm emergency, and 2.5 million residents are still without power. It is not a pleasant time to be in Texas, which illustrates why there is such outrage over claims that one of the highest-ranked elected officials in Texas is currently fleeing a state in dire need of leadership.

Twitter user @trx1000 posted images that appear to show a bemasked Senator Cruz in line at an airport, in an airplane, and in what appears to be a climate conducive to short-sleeved shirts. The accompanying text reveals the sentiment behind the shared images.

But, if true, it could be one of the biggest political blunders in modern history and one that could end any chance of his ambitions to become President of the United States.

““Caught tonight! @TedCruz fleeing to CANCUN while home state freezes with no running water or electricity,” a Twitter user named @Trx1000 said.

The tweet was not noticed by many until reporter Yashar Ali began tweeting about the story and noted that the photos may not be authentic.

“A number of viral tweets appear to show Senator Ted Cruz at the airport and those tweets claim he’s heading to Cancun. I’ve asked his office for comment,” he said.

Former MSNBC host David Shuster said he was able to verify the story but he did not source how.

“Just confirmed @SenTedCruz and his family flew to Cancun tonight for a few days at a resort they’ve visited before. Cruz seems to believe there isn’t much for him to do in Texas for the millions of fellow Texans who remain without electricity/water and are literally freezing,” he said.

“I will note it’s highly unusual for Cruz’s office and even Cruz himself to not respond by this point. One note on tweets claiming to have confirmed this…they have no attribution on sourcing… I’d like to be sure,” Ali said.

The fact that Sen. Cruz has not responded to these claims as of press time is worrisome but until he confirms that the photos are authentic it is still speculation.

A Republican source has told Fox News that the story is true and that the photos do show Sen. Cruz and his family heading to Cancun.

“The photos speak for themselves,” the source said.

We should note that a senator cannot do anything to help his state in a crisis like this. That responsibility belongs to the governor. But leaving the state as so many are suffering, is not wise.
