Why is Kamala Harris Doing Biden’s Job?

In the lead-up to the 2020 election, warnings abounded that, to whatever extent Joe Biden was presenting himself as a congenial moderate Democrat, it didn’t really matter. Why? Because his ultra-light campaign schedule, in combination with his obvious decline in mental acuity, was all the evidence one needed to understand that it wouldn’t be HIM doing the job in the first place. And the woman most likely to be performing his duties instead was none other than Vice President Kamala Harris – someone much more difficult to confuse for a moderate.

It may have been easy at the time to dismiss those as conspiratorial fantasies, but then what are we to make of this story from The New York Post? Why is Kamala Harris taking calls with foreign leaders on behalf of the man who was actually elected to lead the country?

From the Post:

Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday held her second call with a foreign leader — speaking with French President Emmanuel Macron after a talk earlier this month with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as with World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in January.

The calls boost the vice president’s role in diplomacy. Former Vice President Mike Pence occasionally spoke directly by phone with foreign leaders, but that role generally was performed by former President Donald Trump, especially last year.

As the article points out, it’s not unusual for a VP to perform some of these diplomatic duties, but it’s really weird that Harris has almost totally taken over the job in the opening weeks of Biden’s presidency. Wouldn’t this be a good time for the actual PRESIDENT to be speaking to our allies?

What the hell is Joe doing that he’s too busy to get on the horn with Trudeau and Macron? Oh, that’s right, he’s sitting for softball interviews from CNN.

According to the Office of the Vice President, Harris and Macron “agreed on the need for close bilateral and multilateral cooperation to address COVID-19, climate change, and support democracy at home and around the world. They also discussed numerous regional challenges, including those in the Middle East and Africa, and the need to confront them together.”

Terrific. Except…you’re not the President, Kamala!

Or are you?
