The Republican Study Committee (RSC) recently released a report highlighting the “disastrous steps” that the Biden administration has already taken “to undo President Trump’s success in countering China.”
The RSC report begins by reminding readers that the “Trump administration confronted China head-on for stealing U.S. intellectual property, infiltrating the U.S. education system, hijacking international organizations, and spreading disinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.” It also notes that “President Trump strategically strengthened our alliances in the Indo-Pacific through American leadership.”
The report then contrasts this approach with Biden’s, which the RSC argues is “a return to [former President Barrack] Obama’s failed approach of engaging rather than holding China accountable for its bad behavior.”
“Policy Actions Taken”
In the next section of the report, the RSC provides a list of eight “key” policy changes regarding China that Biden has made since becoming president. Breitbart has provided a summary of them.
One of Biden’s executive orders suspends an executive order of Trump that “protected the U.S. against China from accessing or owning parts of the U.S. power grid.” Another executive order “withdrew the requirement for ‘American colleges and universities to disclose their partnerships with Confucius Institutes.’”
Biden has rejoined the World Health Organization (WHO), despite concerns that it helped China to cover up its role in spreading the coronavirus. He has also rejoined the U.N. Human Rights Council, which includes countries like China and Cuba.
Biden’s State Department has announced that it is reviewing former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s determination that China was committing genocide against the Uyghurs. The Biden administration has also not committed to keeping Huawei on the Department of Commerce’s Entities List.
Biden’s Treasury Department has decided to put off the implementation of a Trump executive order that would place sanctions on Chinese military companies operating in the U.S. And, Biden’s Justice Department has announced that it is reviewing whether TikTok actually is a national security threat after the Trump administration determined that it was.
Those are the policy changes implement so far by Biden. The RSC goes on to list those members of the Biden administration who “either have had links to the CCP, or have a record of weak statements and actions on confronting it.” There are fourteen in total.
The RSC report states that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “is interested only in strengthening its regime at all costs. To do this, above all else, the CCP seeks to replace the U.S. as the world’s leader and replace the current U.S.-led international order based in democratic values with one based on Communism and authoritarianism.”
That’s the threat that communist China poses to the United States.
The RSC argues that Biden’s approach, which is the same as Obama’s, will likely allow “China to become more aggressive internationally and more repressive against its own people,” because that was the result of Obama’s approach.
