71-Year Old Man Critical, 6 More Wounded By Carload Of Gunmen In Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – Seven people between the ages of 17 and 71 were shot in front of a Dunkin Donuts in Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon when a bunch of men jumped out of a car and opened fire.

The shootings occurred at about 2:50 p.m. on Feb. 17 near the intersection of Broad Street and Olney Avenue near the Olney Transportation Center and Albert Einstein Medical Center, WCAU reported.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Michael McCarrick said multiple men got out of a car and began shooting at a group of people who were standing near the intersection, WHYY reported.

Police said a 71-year-old man was shot in the stomach and multiple times in both of his legs.

The elderly gunshot victim was in critical condition at the hospital, WCAU reported.

“Right now, we have one critical who sustained a gunshot wound and is in surgery,” Inspector McCarrick said. “The others range from a graze wound to actually being struck.”

Police said the other six victims were believed to be in “stable” condition.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the back and a 17-year-old girl was shot in the right arm, WHYY reported.

Police officials said a 21-year-old man and a 53-year-old man had both been shot in their right legs.

WHYY reported that a 36-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man were each shot in the right thigh, according to police.

Six of the seven gunshot victims were transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center.

The seventh victim was transported by police to Temple University Hospital, WHYY reported

Inspector McCarrick said Philadelphia police had apprehended two suspects so far in connection with the mass shooting.

“We’re trying to see what their connectivity would be to this,” he said.
Police have also recovered two guns from the scene, WHYY reported.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw addressed reporters on the scene, WCAU reported.

“This is happening far too often. It’s happening in broad daylight. And we need everyone to come together to help us solve these cases,” Commissioner Outlaw said.

At least 71 people have been murdered in Philadelphia so far in 2021 – a 48 percent increase over 2020.

Nearly 200 people have been shot so far in 2021, opposed to 121 shootings in the same time period last year, WHYY reported.

The Feb. 17 incident was the second mass shooting in Philadelphia so far this year, WHYY reported.
