Top Dem Gets Impeachment Notice – GOP Makes It Official

After leading another partisan witch hunt, Democrats may soon get a taste of their own medicine.

During an interview Sunday on Fox News, South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham said Vice President Kamala Harris could be the next target of impeachment if Republicans take back control of the House of Representatives during the 2022 midterm election.

“We’ve opened Pandora’s box to future presidents, and if we use this model, I don’t know how Kamala Harris doesn’t get impeached if the Republicans take over the House, because she actually bailed out rioters and one of the rioters went back to the streets and broke somebody’s head open,” Graham said.

“So, we’ve opened Pandora’s box here, and I’m sad for the country,” he added.

Graham was referring to a fund touted by Harris during the presidential campaign, which promised to use donations to free those who had been arrested during protests and riots.

“If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota,” Harris said on Twitter in June.

Ultimately, Graham argued that Trump’s latest impeachment trial was an “affront to the rule of law.”

“I felt the impeachment trial was not only unconstitutional … I condemn what happened on Jan. 6 … but the process they used to impeach this president was an affront to rule of law,” Graham said.

“He’s the first president to ever be impeached without a lawyer, without a witness, without the ability to confront those against him, and the trial record was a complete joke, hearsay upon hearsay,” he added.

Trump was acquitted by the Senate on a charge of incitement of insurrection Saturday in a 57-43 vote, with Democrats falling short of the 67 votes needed to convict the former presidents.

Soon after the acquittal vote, President Joe Biden did in a statement expressing his disapproval with the final vote.

“It was nearly two weeks ago that Jill and I paid our respects to Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who laid in honor in the Rotunda after losing his life protecting the Capitol from a riotous, violent mob on January 6, 2021,” the president said.

“Today, 57 Senators – including a record 7 Republicans – voted to find former President Trump guilty for inciting that deadly insurrection on our very democracy. The Senate vote followed the bipartisan vote to impeach him by the House of Representatives. While the final vote did not lead to a conviction, the substance of the charge is not in dispute. Even those opposed to the conviction, like Senate Minority Leader McConnell, believe Donald Trump was guilty of a ‘disgraceful dereliction of duty’ and ‘practically and morally responsible for provoking’ the violence unleashed on the Capitol.

“Tonight, I am thinking about those who bravely stood guard that January day. I’m thinking about all those who lost their lives, all those whose lives were threatened, and all those who are still today living with the terror they lived through that day. And I’m thinking of those who demonstrated the courage to protect the integrity of our democracy – Democrats, and Republicans, election officials and judges, elected representatives and poll workers – before and after the election,” he said.
