Report: Woman, man arrested near White House on weapons charges

Two individuals were arrested outside the White House on Saturday after they admitted to Secret Service that they had firearms in their possession, NBC 4 in Washington reported.

According to the local NBC affiliate, 66-year-old Sylvia Hall and an unidentified man faced arrest after approaching a checkpoint near the White House “on their own accord” shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday evening, Secret Service said.

Hall revealed to authorities that she had a loaded gun in her car. The man reportedly had a BB gun.

Hall was subsequently “arrested for carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of unregistered ammunition,” NBC 4 reported. The man was also taken into custody.

Secret Service reportedly told NBC 4 that “during the course of the encounter and subsequent arrests, the individuals posed no immediate danger to any Secret Service protectee.”

“One of the individuals disclosed the possession of a weapon and was immediately detained and the second individual disclosed the location of an additional weapon in a vehicle nearby,” a spokesperson for the agency said.

The two individuals “said they were there to meet with the president,” according to NBC 4. They said they had a letter to deliver to him.

It is unclear whether such a letter actually existed.

Threats against the president

It’s the second time threats against President Joe Biden have made headlines in recent days. Last week, David Kyle Reeves, a 27-year-old from Gastonia, North Carolina, was arrested by Secret Service after allegedly making repeated threats to assassinate the president and other members of the government, The Washington Times reported.

The threats were reportedly made in a series of phone calls from Jan. 28 and Feb 1. At first, Reeves called the White House switchboard, reportedly saying, “I am going to [expletive] kill you all… I am going to chop your heads off.”

After being contacted by Secret Service about the threats, Reeves doubled down. “I’m going to come kill the president,” he said in a call to Secret Service. “I’m going to kill the Secret Service because I own this whole planet.”

Reeves was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of threatening the president of the United States, the Times reported. He faces a fine of up to $250,000 and as many as five years in prison.
