(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Tuesday, a A̶s̶s̶a̶u̶l̶t̶ Defense Weapons weapons ban that was passed by the Virginia Legislature last month was vetoed by state Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) in a 30-bill veto session.
In his statement, Youngkin stated that he had sworn to protect the United States Constitution and the Virginia Constitution. He added that this entailed protecting the state’s citizens’ rights to own and bear arms. Despite his ban on this particular law, he did sign two more limited gun regulations into law.
The two laws that were passed ban gun trigger switches which can be used to turn any firearm into an automatic gun. The second law allows for parents to be charged if they give children access to weapons, in cases where those minors are considered to be threats.
As the governor pointed out the public safety bills, he is willing to sign are common-sense reforms that have gained bipartisan support from the General Assembly. This was a test for Youngkin, as his state Legislature had not previously managed to pass any big gun control measures. However, that changed after the Democrats won the two chambers in the last election.
“Auto sear,” the device banned by the trigger switch ban allows for a simple modification that turns semiautomatic weapons into fully automatic ones. In recent months gun control activists have been targeting these devices.
Earlier this month Chicago city sued Glock, the handgun manufacturer, for creating firearms that can be easily modified claiming that it is criminally negligent.
