Although the NFL’s Chiefs have spent the past six decades in Kansas City, the franchise originated in Texas.
And the future of the two-time defending Super Bowl champions has become somewhat murky after voters in Kansas City rejected a measure that would have backed proposed renovations to the franchise’s home at Arrowhead Stadium.
The measure would also have helped fund a new stadium for the city’s Major League Baseball team, the Royals.
The report explains that the football franchise is originally from Texas. They were named the Dallas Texans, but moved to Missouri in 1963 and rebranded themselves as the Kansas City Chiefs.
Suggesting the team should move back to Texas, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson posted a message to the team shortly after voters rejected the renovation measure.
“Welcome home, Dallas Texans! #CottonBowl,” Johnson wrote on X/Twitter.
Fox News explained that the Cotton Bowl has recently undergone major renovations.
However, the Chiefs still have several years left on their lease at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Based on the responses, Johnson’s suggestion is not being received well, from either state. Cowboys fans are telling him no way, and Chiefs fan are declaring their Chiefs aren’t going anywhere.
Fox4 reporter Steven Dial wrote, “Clark Hunt lives in Dallas and has deep ties to the city, but the #Chiefs aren’t going anywhere. The vote last night was a gut punch but the Royals and Chiefs will come back to the community with a better plan.”

Talk show host Mark Davis replied to Johnson’s post, writing, “The mayor told me some months ago that a second NFL team was on his list of goals. Didn’t expect this might be one prospect, as #KansasCity voters refuse #Chiefs stadium improvements.”
