Camden, NJ – A manhunt is underway for two gunmen who shot up the residence of two Camden County police officers as they were inside with their 10-day-old infant on Tuesday night.
“This was a targeted attack against this residence and the officers inside,” Camden County Police Chief Joseph Wysocki told reporters on Sept. 17, according to WPVI.
The attack occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 15, as the officers and their new baby were inside their home in the 2900-block of Clinton Street, KYW reported.
A security camera captured the moment when suspects inside a dark-colored, 1998 Honda Odyssey fired multiple rounds at the officers’ house.
The couple and their newborn child were on the second level of the home as six bullets tore into the side of their residence, according to a press release on the Camden County website.
Investigators later found seven spent shell casings in front of the house, the county said.
Two bullets traveled through the front door and went into the interior of the home, according to police.
The family was not injured during the harrowing attack, and they remain on family and medical leave, KYW reported.
One of the officers has been with the Camden County Police Department for four years, while the second officer has served for two years.
“Ten days before this incident, they had their first baby together and started a family,” Chief Wysocki told reporters.
“It’s critical for us to speak to the owner, the occupants or friends of anybody that operates this vehicle,” the chief added, according to WPVI. “This attack on our officers wan an affront to the department and will not be tolerated.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined in the search for the gunmen, and a $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to their arrests.
The vehicle the suspects used in the drive-by shooting was located by investigators early Thursday morning, but the suspects remain at large, according to the county’s press release.
“Everyone is investigating this and helping us to bring these thugs in to justice,” Chief Wysocki said, according to KYW. “We are going to catch them, and we are going to bring them in.”
“We are determined to get to the bottom of this together,” FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Philadelphia Field Office Mike Driscoll agreed.
Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli said he wanted to “share a very clear message to the scumbag thugs” who carried out the “senseless” attack, KYW reported.
“We’re coming to get you, and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Cappelli promised.
