House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is making a political gamble that could cost some swing-state Democrats their seats in the upcoming election.
And now over two dozen of her Democratic colleagues have turned against her.
According to a new report released by Fox News, moderate Democrats, especially those in swing districts, are fed up with Pelosi trying to stall Coronavirus relief.
The report states that moderate Democrats are currently trying to pressure Pelosi to allow a COVID relief bill to pass.
Because, according to them, blaming Republicans and the White House just isn’t working with voters.
One such revolt against Pelosi’s leadership is the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus revealed their $1.5 trillion coronavirus relief plan.
The plan is supported by 25 Democrats who are breaking with their leadership and joining 25 Republicans on a compromise deal.
As one example, New York Democratic Rep. Max Rose has reportedly taken a stand against Pelosi, saying that voters are pressuring politicians to take action and to come together despite Pelosi’s agenda:
“The pressure is loud and forthright and it is bipartisan in nature. Because that pressure is reflective of where the American people are. They are sick and tired of politics,” Rose said.
Rose went even further, calling on Democrat leadership to stop stalling, to stop playing games, and to get back to work:
“To the leadership, we said this very simple message: It’s time for you to stop playing games. Let’s stop the charade. Let’s stop this stupidity. Let’s put the country first,” Rose added.
A similar report came out late last week saying that several vulnerable lawmakers have practically begged Pelosi to strike a deal with Republicans to pass another coronavirus relief bill because they are worried it could hurt their re-election chances in November.
Pelosi is digging in along the party line of demanding trillions in stimulus spending — and some pundits predict it could cost Democrats their seats further down the ranks.
Republicans remain committed to pursuing a plan with a much lower price tag.
Without a drastic shift on one side or the other, a viable proposal is unlikely to result before Election Day.
Meanwhile, Democrats in the U.S. Senate blocked a GOP-backed plan to provide $500 billion in relief to struggling Americans.
It’s all political.
Democrats just can’t give Trump and Republicans a “win” — even if the “win” if helping Americans who are struggling.
In a joint statement, the speaker and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer described the McConnell-backed proposals as “only intended to help vulnerable Republican senators by giving them a ‘check the box’ vote to maintain the appearance that they’re not held hostage by their extreme right-wing that doesn’t want to spend a nickel to help people.”
In addition to the presidency, though, the Democrats’ majority in the House is also on the line in November.
And many voters are sure to place the blame squarely on Pelosi’s party if there is still no sign of relief.
