President Joe Biden experienced a rather embarrassing Jeb! moment on Sunday while slurring his way through a St. Patrick’s Day speech.
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar was at the White House and the 81-year-old Irish Catholic president was speaking about the “strong” friendship between the two countries.
“We celebrate the bonds of our friendship today connecting millions of Irish Americans and American people. We celebrate the friendship between the two nations — one that has shaped our past, strengthened our present, and inspires our future,” Biden said.
Naturally, Biden exploits any opportunity to plug support for Ukraine.
“Ireland now is one of the top ten investors in the United States economy. And our countries stand proudly for liberty and against tyranny. We stand together and oppose Russia’s brutal war of aggression in Ukraine. You can clap for that, please,” the president said as he tried to stir the crowd to show some emotion.

It was during Jeb Bush’s forgettable 2016 low-energy run for the White House that the Republican candidate pleaded with a New Hampshire rally crowd to “please clap” after his applause line fell flat.
“I will not trash talk. I will not be a divider in chief or an agitator in chief. I won’t be out there blowharding, talking a big game without backing it up,” Bush said, in a clear shot at Donald Trump. “I think the next president needs to be a lot quieter but send a signal that we’re prepared to act in the national security interests of this country — to get back in the business of creating a more peaceful world.”
The remark was met with an awkward silence, prompting Bush to add, “Please clap.”
Social media users drew an immediate comparison… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
