Axios Deletes Tweet Linking Criticism Of Netflix’s ‘Cuties’ To QAnon

Axios has deleted a tweet an updated its report that linked criticism of the movie “Cuties” to the QAnon movement.

The now-deleted tweet linked to an Axios story about prominent politicians condemning the controversial movie and noted that their views have been associated with “a child trafficking sex conspiracy theory central to the QAnon movement.”

The story added that “conservatives are using the conspiracy to target Netflix for its ties to Democrats, including its partnership with Barack and Michelle Obama.”

“The child trafficking theme is a powerful part of the QAnon movement because it’s tied to a genuine issue — making it harder to distinguish conspiracy from activism,” the report read. “Fighting human trafficking has been a rallying cry in many evangelical communities for the past several years. The Jeffrey Epstein saga lent credibility to conspiracy theories about an elite child trafficking ring and helped revive QAnon.”

Here’s an archived version of the original story.

Axios has since updated the report. “This story was updated after publishing to remove references to linkage between the conservative criticism of Cuties’ and the QAnon conspiracy theory,” the editor’s note says. The headlined has been changed from “Netflix faces its QAnon moment as lawmakers push to investigate ‘Cuties,’” to “Republicans target Netflix over ‘Cuties.’”

How we got here: The media and users on social media have suggested that there is a connection between the criticism of “Cuties” and the QAnon movement because its supporters believe that many Hollywood elitists are part of a cabal of pedophiles running a massive child sex-trafficking ring. BuzzFeed News and The Verge are among the media outlets that have asserted a link between the two, claiming the QAnon movement is promoting the hashtag #SaveTheChildren and #CancelNetflix on social media.
