A Mississippi mother could lose custody of her children nearly one year after her 11-year-old son was shot by a police officer in their home. The shooting, which occurred in May of 2023, garnered national headlines and elicited outrage from the community.
Now, the mother is ensconced in a court battle to retain custody of her children.
The incident occurred on a late evening when Officer Greg Capers responded to a domestic violence call at Nakala Murry’s home. Now, one year later, the state is accusing Murry of neglect.
