WASHINGTON, D.C. — Despite the conventional, inside-the-Beltway wisdom that the prospect of a payroll tax cut was dead in the water, FreedomWorks has kept up the pressure on our elected officials in recent weeks. In response to reports that President Trump will in fact sign an executive order for a payroll tax cut, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:
“If the president signs this order, voters in key swing states will remember his heroic action. A payroll tax cut will help businesses begin to rehire, and most importantly, it will give America’s frontline workers the pay raise they deserve. On behalf of our grassroots activists nationwide, we are proud to have stayed the course and helped make a payroll tax cut a reality.
“From the very beginning, FreedomWorks and pro-growth conservatives have been calling for a payroll tax cut. While Congress has failed to get reckless spending under control time and time again, President Trump is making the right decision to order the Department of the Treasury to suspend the payroll tax cut.”
Both FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon and Stephen Moore, chair of the FreedomWorks Task Force on Economic Revival, have advocated in numerous publications the need for a payroll tax cut to alleviate the strains of the economic downturn due to the COVID-19 lockdowns.
