Special Counsel Jack Smith has finally won a motion he put in front of Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump.
Smith wanted the names of the witnesses redacted from filings to ensure that Trump could not pressure them with posts on social media.
On Thursday, Cannon ruled in favor of Smith in the motion.
Jack Smith Catches a Break
Smith has clearly been frustrated by the rulings from Cannon, so even though he did not get a 100% victory in this motion, he is surely happy that witness names were blocked.
Smith had also hoped to have statements disclosed, but Cannon did not want to go that far in her ruling.
She stated, “As for legal authority, the cases cited in the Special Counsel’s papers do not lend support to this sweeping request; nor do they appear to have been offered as such.
“And based on the Court’s independent research, granting this request would be unprecedented: the Court cannot locate any case — high-profile or otherwise — in which a court has authorized anything remotely similar to the sweeping relief sought here.”
Cannon has been taking her time in ruling on these types of motions, which has led to liberal media claiming she is purposely slow-walking these decisions in order to allow Trump to have the case delayed until after the election.
But, let’s be honest here… every decision and ruling that Cannon makes will be gone over with a fine-toothed comb and criticized because Trump appointed her to the bench.
It is at the point now that her decisions have been so heavily criticized that many believe it is only a matter of time before Smith files a motion to have her recused from the case.
Thus far, no trial date has been set for the case, but some believe the case could be seen inside of a courtroom before the end of the summer.
While I have openly criticized the cases brought by Fulton Count DA Fani Willis and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, I have always stated that I believe the two cases brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith have the most teeth against Trump.
These would both appear to be cases that could result in a guilty verdict that would stand up to appeal, which would be an utter nightmare for Trump.
As you all know by now, if Trump is convicted of a felony, his support gets hit rather significantly, and it could be the deciding factor in who wins the presidential election.
