Two McAllen, Texas police officers were murdered in what’s being called a calculated “ambush” when responding to a domestic violence call in the South Texas city.

Officer Edelmiro Garza, 45, and Officer Ismael Chavez, 39, were shot and killed by 23-year old Aldon Caramillo. The suspect in the shootings reportedly killed himself shortly after shooting the police officers. The officers had been responding to a call reporting domestic violence at a home.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez was overcome with emotion as he explained the situation to local media, revealing that the two officers had suffered fatal wounds from the shooting.

Caramillo reportedly had a lengthy criminal history according to McAllen Police, which includes arrests for DWI and possession of marijuana.
