Cross-country skier Gus Schumacher was brought in by Democrats to testify before the Senate Budget Committee on Wednesday, to address “climate threats to outdoor recreation.”
However, by the time Republican Sen. John Kennedy (La.) got through with him, Schumacher’s credibility was not only ripped to shreds, but left in an embarrassing pile of dust!
The Senate Budget Committee, led by Democrat Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, touted Schumacher’s appearance as a witness for their hearing Wednesday morning, and wrote in a social media post:

When Sen. Kennedy’s turn came to question Schumacher, he began by asking who invited him to the hearing? The young athlete dodged, refusing to say whether it was Democrats or Republicans who invited him.
“I’m here on behalf of the outdoor enthusiasts around America,” he claimed.
Then Kennedy asked, “What is carbon dioxide?”
“I went to high school, but carbon dioxide is a gas,” Schumacher stammered, adding, “I’m not a professional to talk about carbon dioxide so much.”
“But you want us to abolish it?…. You’re here as an ‘expert,’” Kennedy retorted.
“I’m here as an expert cross-country skier who sees the changes in my winters and the landscape I live in, in Alaska, and so carbon dioxide is a gas that exists in our atmosphere,” Schumacher said.
He claimed that carbon dioxide is “a huge part of our atmosphere.”
“It’s actually a very small part of our atmosphere,” Kennedy responded, later noting on social media that carbon dioxide is only 0.035% of the atmosphere.
Schumacher said he wanted to see a decrease in the use of fossil fuels, but when Kennedy asked him how much that would cost, and what his specific goals were for that, Schumacher had no idea.
He bizarrely suggested that if money were spent to “invest in our future, hopefully those temperatures stop rising and the snow at least stabilizes where it is.”
“You think we ought to just spend the money and see what happens?” Kennedy asked.
The grilling got even more embarrassing for Schumacher the further it went, as Kennedy then began reading off some of the young man’s radical social media posts from the past, in which he had condemned the war on drugs, and called to abolish the police.
June 8, 2020: “The war on drugs was intentionally created to incarcerate Black people en masse.”
Aug. 27, 2020: “Police are paid with taxpayer dollars. If they are not answerable to to us, we can demand new service. Abolish the police in favor of that new service.”
Aug. 26, 2020: “This is what systemic racism looks like. The Los Angeles Police Department is literally policing only the Black Lives Matter side!”
But Schumacher wasn’t interested in discussing his prior tweets, saying that was off-topic and he was only there to discuss the effects of climate change.
WATCH the jaw-dropping exchange below. This may be one of Kennedy’s best!
WFLA’s Preston Scott reported on the brutal takedown of Schumacher in an op-ed on Thursday, and noted that Schumacher is actually benefiting from the very industry he wants to destroy.
Scott wrote:
Among the many ironies is that everything Gus does revolves around the petroleum industry. The equipment he uses, the way he travels around the world, the clothing he wears, yet he dares to show up as an “expert witness” to influence public policy and budget decisions because of the his belief in man-made climate change..
I suggest he start by divesting himself from all things made with carbon producing energy and from carbon producing products – like petroleum. He will be left naked running across snow covered hills and paths.
This interaction displays how children are being brainwashed and what awaits us as these kids become adults. One can only hope they mature enough to correct their thinking before it’s too late.

Social media users are reacting to the wild exchange between Kennedy and Schumacher.
Former Fox host Bill O’Reilly’s X account mocked, “Skier Gus Schumacher thought he was in DC to talk about ‘climate change’ until he ran into Sen. John Kennedy’s buzz saw.”

The Democrats actually wanted this guy to testify? On climate change? He likely knew less about the topic than everyone in that room.

@GusSchumacher little democrat rat boy had his 15 minutes of fame and couldn’t even define what carbon dioxide is. We say it a lot but when democrats are not sending their best. What an embarrassment this kid is. Ignorant, uneducated, and blindly loyal to the party. 1984.

American skier, Gus Schumacher has got to be the dumbest human being that I have ever heard speak in my entire life. Listen to Senator Kennedy ask him very simple questions in which he can’t answer a single one.

Below is a full video of the hearing. The video is set to start when Schumacher gives his opening statement.
“Climate change has dramatically altered the conditions for winter sports,” he claimed, adding, “Rising temperatures have led to shorter and more erratic winter seasons, with snow cover becoming increasingly unreliable.”
