Author Gillian Philip loses job after hashtag #IStandWithJKRowling

The cancel culture movement does it again. Gillian Philip, who authors kids’ books, has been dropped from the Erin Hunter book series after adding a hashtag to her Twitter profile in support of fellow-author JK Rowling, who herself has been facing an online mob over her opinions.

Gillian Philip writes fictional book series and short stories primarily focused on kids, tweens, and teens. Her book series and novels include Rebel Angels, The Opposite of Amber, and Crossing The Line. She is also one of the authors writing as Erin Hunter for kids’ fantasy book series such as Bravelands, Survivors, and Warrior Cats.

Last week, on her Twitter handle, Philip included the hashtag #IStandWithJKRowling. Her support ignited outrage and the Harry Potter author has been deemed “transphobic” by the trans lobby after saying that giving hormone blockers to kids is like “a new kind of conversion therapy.”

Some users were embroiled enough by Philip’s support of Rowling to email her employer, Working Partners.

A day later, Working Partners responded by firing Philip.

“The worlds created by Erin Hunter are meant to be inclusive for all readers, and we want to let you know that Gillian Philip will no longer be writing any Erin Hunter novels,” announced Working Partners through their managing editor, James Noble.

“I am disappointed that the hard work and professional attitude I have brought to my work for HarperCollins and for Working Partners counted for nothing in the face of an abusive mob of anonymous Twitter trolls,” Philip said in a statement.

There is little room for disagreement on social media these days as, instead of disagreeing and debating, people are increasingly targeting the employer of those who they disagree with and people are losing their jobs – mostly for not siding with a vocal and organized minority.
