RALEIGH – While the election year summer is quite different in 2020, with large campaign events, town halls, and summer time festivals falling victim to Pandemic Panic, there is still one very informative way for North Carolina’s gubernatorial candidates to present a clear choice to voters — debates.
This year features perhaps the most consequential political, social, and cultural debates of our life times. Dan Forest is eager to make his case for unity, prosperity and opportunity built upon the quintessentially American values of individual liberty and limited government, and he’s accepted more than one invitation to debate the sitting governor.
Governor Cooper? Crickets.
From the Forest Campaign:
“Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest has accepted two invitations from N.C. media outlets to debate Gov. Roy Cooper ahead of November’s election.
Should Gov. Cooper accept, the two candidates for Governor would debate on Spectrum News and on CBS 17. Both debates would be broadcast statewide.
North Carolina’s gubernatorial race is widely considered one of the top races in the country. RealClearPolitics has rated the contest a toss-up.
“North Carolinians deserve to hear their candidates for Governor debate the important issues of our state,” campaign spokesman Andrew Dunn said.
“Voters have a clear choice in November, and we look forward to outlining our vision for North Carolina and how we will get our state back on track.”
This an important election precisely because we face, as a state and nation, the most important decisions of our lifetimes about which direction to proceed.
You would think Governor Cooper — who is apparently confident enough to rule unilaterally in ruining livelihoods and shaming anyone who questions his authority, or happy to march with Marxists demanding White people repent for the sin of their skin — would want to present his message in contrast to Forest.
The again, Governor Cooper currently enjoys getting a stage all to himself every other day for COVID briefings where he can go unchallenged and appear in charge. He might sense that Forest would wipe the floor with him in a debate.
Thus far Cooper has not acknowledged either invitation. In the most tumultuous era, facing the biggest challenges, and being pulled at the seems by diametrically opposing worldviews, will Governor Roy Cooper refuse to even debate?
North Carolinians deserve debates. Hopefully, Cooper isn’t too chicken to make his woefully woke case for another term.
