Senator Rand Paul has highlighted newly discovered emails in which Dr. Peter Daszak, head of EcoHealth Alliance, widely considered to be responsible for the coronavirus research that led to the virus leaking from the Wuhan lab, admitted that his company had fifteen thousands samples of the virus in freezers in Wuhan.
Paul, who obtained the emails as part of his ongoing probe into the origins of COVID, posted the link to X, also noting that Daszak told David Morens, Anthony Fauci’s top aide at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), that the samples from the lab could help scientists “do the full genomes of 700+ [coronaviruses].”
Paul notes that another email shows Morens referencing Fauci’s attempts to provide ‘damage control’ for EcoHealth.
During hours of testimony, briefings and interviews, Fauci never mentioned that he was aware of hundreds of unknown variants of coronavirus that existed in the Wuhan lab.
The emails date from April 2020, when COVID was in full effect worldwide.
Republicans have now sent a subpoena to Morens, who appeared to have started using a Gmail account at the time in order to avoid federal transparency laws.
This was revealed by the whistleblower Rand Paul referred to last week who provided evidence directly tying Fauci and multiple government agencies to funding of research that led to the creation of the virus.
Rep. Brad Wenstrup, chairman of the Senate subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, has charged that Morens used Gmail to “intentionally [subvert] federal transparency laws to shield discussions related to the origins of COVID-19.”
Wenstrup is now demanding Morens turn over all documents from his personal email account concerning COVID-19, coronavirus grant funding and his communications with Fauci and former NIH Director Francis Collins, as well as other top health officials.
Morens previously admitted to the committee in a closed interview that he would “delete anything I don’t want to see in the New York Times,” adding “I always try to communicate over gmail because my NIH email is FOIA’d constantly.”
“These emails raise serious concerns about federal health officials potentially covering up the pandemic’s origin,” Wenstrup has urged.
Wenstrup has requested the documentation from Morens be submitted by the end of this month, while Daszak is due to testify publicly before the House on May 1.
