A Democrat New Jersey mayor and his leftist wife have been charged with abusing and assaulting their own teen daughter.
Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr., and his wife, La’Quetta, the superintendent of Atlantic City’s public schools, were both charged this week with second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, according to a press release from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Small was also hit with third-degree Terroristic Threats, third-degree Aggravated Assault, and disorderly persons Simple Assault charges, while his wife was hit with three separate counts of disorderly persons Simple Assault.

The charges stem from Small and his wife’s treatment of their daughter in December of 2023 and in January of 2024.
“During one incident, Marty Small, Sr. is alleged to have hit his daughter multiple times in the head with a broom causing her to lose consciousness,” according to the press release.
“Another incident alleged that Marty Small, Sr., during an argument with his daughter, continuously threatened to hurt her by ‘earth slamming’ her down the stairs, grabbing her head and throwing her to the ground, and smacking the weave out of her head,” the press release continues.
During a third incident, Small allegedly punched his daughter in the legs, causing them to bruise.
His wife is also accused of similar acts.
“It is alleged that La’Quetta Small, during one incident, punched her daughter multiple times on her chest leaving bruising,” the press release reads.
“Another incident alleged that La’Quetta Small dragged her daughter by her hair then struck her with a belt on her shoulders leaving marks. Another incident alleged that La’Quetta Small punched her daughter in the mouth during an argument,” it continues.

The mayor, for his part, claimed innocence while speaking at an April 1st news conference after his home was searched.
“We have done nothing wrong,” he said at the time, according to USA Today.
Pressed this week by The New York Times, Small’s attorney, Edwin Jacobs, said the case “has absolutely nothing to do with any improprieties in the mayor’s office.”
He added that the ongoing investigation “focuses on private personal matters, including challenges that Mayor Small as a dad and his wife, La’Quetta, as a mom have been facing raising a teenage child.”
The problem is that Small’s criminal history is a hot mess.
“Small Sr. has a history of criminal charges, most notably when he and five others were accused of tampering with ballots during the Democratic primary campaign for Atlantic City mayor in 2009,” according to NJ.com.

The authorities were originally alerted to the Smalls’ abusive behavior by their own daughter.
“According to the affidavit detailing the Smalls’ charges, the first report came when the mayor’s daughter circled a ‘neutral’ smiley face during a school mental-health training session, writing ‘abuse’ and ‘would like a counselor,’” The Philadelphia Inquirer notes.
“The affidavit says the student told a therapist she was being physically and emotionally abused over a situation that ‘had happened December 7th and it was a minor situation, it got escalated to where they put hands on me,’ including Marty Small punching her in the legs and La’Quetta Small putting her knee on her chest,” according to the Inquirer.
The daughter later told her therapist about the abuse, after which the therapist addressed her mom. La’Quetta subsequently told the therapist that they were dealing with issues regarding “a young man they don’t approve of, and it had caused some tensions in the home.”
That young man was the daughter’s boyfriend.
When the authorities spoke with Small’s daughter, she claimed she’d made everything up and that her parents had never touched her. The problem was that the boyfriend had evidence to the contrary, including video footage and pictures the daughter had previously given him.
One video reportedly showed Small and his daughter arguing.
“She’s the problem!” Small yelled in the video.
“I’m scared,” the daughter whispered.
“Don’t make me hurt you,” Small said.
“Hurt me, that’s all you do!” his daughter replied.
