NBC’s Chuck Todd railed against network execs over their decision to hire Ronna McDaniel, the recently departed Republican National Committee (Republican National Committee) boss as a contributor.
On Sunday’s edition of “Meet the Press,” the show’s longtime former host joined his successor Kirsten Welker right after she had interviewed McDaniel, her first appearance on NBC News as an employee.
In a diatribe that isn’t likely to go over well in the C-suites at 30 Rock, the Democrat shill first told Welker that she was owed an apology before going scorched earth on the network brass.
WATCH: Chuck Todd just attacked his own network, NBC News, over hiring Ronna McDaniel. “Our bosses owe you an apology for putting you in this situation,” he told Kristen Welker on Meet the Press. “There’s a reason why there’s a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with… pic.twitter.com/gjjhy7s4TN

“She is now a paid contributor by NBC News so I have no idea whether any answer she gave to you was because she didn’t want to mess up her contract,” he said. “She wants us to believe that she was speaking for the Republican National Committee when the Republican National Committee was paying for it, so she has, she has credibility issues that she still has to deal with. Is she speaking for herself or is she speaking on behalf of who’s paying her? Once at the Republican National Committee, she did say that. ‘Hey, I’m speaking for the party.’ I get that that’s part of the job, So, what about here?”
“Look, there’s a reason why there’s a lot of journalists at NBC News are uncomfortable with this,” Todd added. “Because many of our professional dealings with the Republican National Committee over the last six years have been met with gaslighting, have been met with character assassination.”
“When NBC made the decision to give her NBC News’s credibility, you got to ask yourself, what does she bring NBC News?” Todd asked. “And when we make deals like this, and I’ve been at this company a long time, you’re doing it for access. Access to audience, sometimes it’s access to an individual, and we can have a journalistic ethics debate about that and I’m willing to have that debate.”
“And if you told me we were hiring her as a technical adviser to the Republican convention, I think that would be certainly defensible. If you told me we’re talking to her, but let’s see how she does in some interviews and maybe vet her with actual journalists inside the network to see if it’s a two-way, what she can bring the network,” Todd said.
“I think you did everything you could do. You got put into an impossible situation booking this interview, and then all of a sudden, the rug pulled out from under you,” he concluded. “You find out she’s being paid to show up.”
Todd’s tirade was slammed by X users, some of whom are media colleagues who found it to be out of line.
Chuck Todd does not have to agree with Ronna…but he should not disrespect that audience and only allow them to hear what HE wants them to hear; that is not journalism (that is Russia TV);the viewers are smart, they don’t need to have Chuck Todd screen what they hear; pic.twitter.com/uTKcQhWx8v

Hey @chucktodd, when you had Amy Klobuchar on the show, were you speaking to her as reporter or her landlord? Because you never disclosed that she was your tenant at a townhouse you rented to her.
And how about Jen Psaki? No ethical issues there Chuck? Even when the deal leaked? https://t.co/9ef6b8bLzX— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) March 24, 2024
. @chucktodd is so partisan that he doesn’t see the partisan Democrats paid by @NBCNews to pretend to do the news, as well as be “contributors”.

To say that McDaniel hasn’t exactly been welcomed with open arms by many at the peacock would be a monumental understatement.
Todd’s meltdown comes after it was reported that NBC had to back out of plans to give Mitt Romney’s niece time on left-wing cable network MSNBC after an employee revolt.

According to the Wall Street Journal, MSNBC president Rashida Jones told her disgruntled on-air personalities and staffers that “the cable network has no plans to have McDaniel on the channel,” citing anonymous sources. It was previously announced that she would be contributing “across all NBC News platforms”
Then there was the current MTP host throwing her new colleague under the bus on Sunday’s edition of the NBC flagship.

Todd’s selective outrage about journalistic integrity was missing when NBC/MSNBC hired former Biden spokesman Jen Psaki and numerous veterans of the Obama regime but hypocrisy is the coin of the realm on the left.
