After losing against him in the 2016 presidential race, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made it clear that she still has her sights set on President Donald Trump.
In a recent interview, she said that her top priority was to “retire him” and send him “back to the golf course full-time,” Breitbart reported.
“A sense of real responsibility”
Her comments came during a discussion with comedian Amy Schumer as part of Variety‘s Virtual TV Festival.
“It was an emotional gut-punch,” Clinton said of her electoral loss to Trump, acknowledging that she “didn’t think” she would come up short in the race.
“Like how did this happen?” she added. “Of course, I was really worried about Trump. But he’s been worse than I even feared he would be, and as I tried to warn people he would be.”
Clinton went on to tie Trump to a series of societal ills currently facing the nation, including the coronavirus pandemic and civil unrest in response to racism and police abuses.
“We’re seeing that play out dramatically right now between COVID and the economy, and the terrible decisions he made around peaceful protestors, and trying to send in the military — and so much that is contrary to the Constitution, to our fundamental values to humanity,” she said, according to Breitbart.
“Literally a handful”
The former first lady also said she has carried a “real sense of deep responsibility” over her role in allowing Trump to become president, Breitbart noted.
“For whatever combination of reasons, and there were a lot of reasons, I win a popular vote and lose the electoral college by literally a handful,” she said, going on to reaffirm her dedication to making her 2016 rival a one-term president.
“I’m spending most of my time trying to do everything I can to retire him, and to send him back to the golf course full-time,” Clinton concluded, according to Breitbart.
While her obvious intent is to help her party and its presumptive nominee, Joe Biden, her impact on the election probably leaves a lot to be desired. Despite his clear negatives, Biden is seen as more likable than Clinton — by a wide margin — among Democrats.
As for her goal of sending Trump into retirement, voters will have the final say on that, just as they did in 2016.
