Jerry Seinfeld has dropped a bomb on the entertainment industry.
He seemed to be lamenting the oversaturation in the entertainment industry that has left us without much quality despite seemingly limitless quantity.
“Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives.”
“When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked,” Seinfeld continued. “Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.”
Interesting that he would compare studios spewing out movies to a firehose, especially since he currently has a movie going out on Netflix, probably the biggest offender of the “firehose” distribution method.
Seinfeld is estimating that reels and chopped-up videos are replacing long-form entertainment.
“Disorientation replaced the movie business. Everyone I know in show business, every day, is going, What’s going on? How do you do this? What are we supposed to do now?”
