Lt Gov Dan Forest Reacts to Cooper Chasing 2020 RNC Out of State

RALEIGH – Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest, a Republican, is Democrat Governor Roy Cooper’s 2020 opponent. As such he has a lot of interest in building as big a stage as possible on which to present his vision of unity, prosperity and opportunity; and, as bright a light as you could shine on Cooper’s ineptitude and damaging lack of true leadership.

Cooper’s ambiguous threats to restrict attendance and activity at the convention has now led directly to the RNC leaving for another state, therefore yanking a giant section out of the opposition’s stage, and obscuring attempts to reveal Cooper’s failings.

Yet, Forest, in keeping with his character, laments most of all the loss of economic opportunity to the Charlotte area that stems directly from Governor Cooper playing politics with abuse of emergency powers.

“Losing the Republican National Convention is a devastating economic blow to the Charlotte region and North Carolina as a whole. Restaurants, hotels and service workers across multiple industries were counting on this business, especially after the major hit they’ve taken from Gov. Cooper’s COVID-19 restrictions. Gov. Cooper has delivered a clear message that North Carolina is not open for business, and the repercussions to jobs and livelihoods will be long-lasting. When other states’ ‘science and data’ shows that it is safe to host a convention in August, it is clear the Cooper Administration is playing politics.”
