Just in the past week, the 100-year-old mystery of Antarctica’s Blood Falls has finally been solved while the reason why Africa is splitting in two remains a huge talking point.
Scientists seem to be finding answers at a rapid pace nowadays, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get baffled by some finds.
And a family in Turkey who were the subject of a documentary, The Family That Walks On All Fours, are the perfect example of that.
The Ulas family quickly went viral after a bunch of Turkish scientists wrote a medical paper about them.
Evolutionary psychologist professor Nicholas Humphrey headed up the team who looked into the family.
And the team were left shocked when they discovered that of 18 children born into the Ulas family, six of them had a ‘unique disability’ which resulted in them walking on all fours.
While the Turkish scientists thought that the family had ‘devolved’, professor Humphrey found that conclusion to be ‘deeply insulting’ and ‘scientifically irresponsible’, saying as much in a 2006 BBC documentary.
