Last week saw Michael Whatley and Lara Trump confirmed as chair and co-chair of the Republican National Committee (Republican National Committee).
The development appears to confirm a recent claim by Mrs. Trump’s brother-in-law that the old Republican Party is all but dead.
“The MAGA movement is the new Republican Party”
According to the Washington Examiner, Donald Trump Jr. made that assertion during an interview with Newsmax host Eric Bolling.
“People have to understand that America First, the MAGA movement is the new Republican Party. That is conservatism today,” Trump told Bolling.

“You know, there may be the Mitt Romneys and the Liz Cheneys out there. But that is a rare and dying breed,” he insisted.
“The Republican National Committee is gonna be a little bit more of that old-school establishment”
The Examiner noted that Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, who was the GOP’s presidential nominee in 20212, announced late last year that he will not be seeking another term in office.
For her part, former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney was defeated in a successful 2022 primary challenge by current Wyoming Republican Rep. Harriet Hageman. Both Romney and Cheney are known for being harsh critics of former President Donald Trump.
The former president’s son acknowledged to Bolling that he believes “the Republican National Committee is gonna be a little bit more of that old-school establishment.”
“That Republican Party frankly no longer exists outside of the D.C. Beltway. But it takes a little while to make that transition,” he added.
Lara Trump touts Republican National Committee fundraising efforts
Meanwhile, Mediate reported that after assuming office last Friday, Lara Trump asserted that the Republican National Committee will focus on fundraising.
She also boasted of having just secured “a check for the Republican National Committee that’s $100,000 that has been donated as of today.”
Mrs. Trump put forward a similar message during an interview with Newsmax last month, saying, “Every single penny will go to the number one and the only job of the Republican National Committee. That is electing Donald J. Trump as president of the United States and saving this country.”
“We have no time to waste. We’ve got to get to work. We’ve got a lot of money to raise and we need to ensure that every penny goes to those things that I just mentioned,” she added.
