As many of you have heard, the total solar eclipse today will be fully visible in the United States for observers in the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. States like Florida or California will only experience partial views of this uncommon phenomenon.
Approximately 32 million individuals in the United States reside within the path of totality. Those situated directly along the centerline of this path will witness an eclipse lasting between 3 to 4 minutes.
For safe sky watching during an eclipse, it’s essential to use a pair of certified eclipse glasses or a solar viewer. Viewing any phase of an eclipse, except when the moon completely blocks the sun’s light, without proper eye protection is not safe. NASA scientists emphasize that ordinary sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection.
We want to ask you, the reader: will you be watching the solar eclipse today? Answer in our poll below and comment if the event has become overhyped or is justified!
