Former President Donald Trump lambasted the judge in his landmark hush money trial, expressing concern over the possibility of being denied permission to attend his son Barron’s high school graduation next month.
Barron, aged 18, is scheduled to graduate from high school on May 17, coinciding with the ongoing trial.
Trump unleashed his frustration outside the court after the first day of jury selection, marking a historic moment as the first U.S. ex-president to stand trial on criminal charges.
“It looks like the judge will not let me go to the graduation of my son who’s worked very, very hard,” an incensed Trump declared. “He’s a great student, and he’s very proud of the fact he did so well and was looking forward for years to having his graduation with his mother and father there.”
“It looks like the judge isn’t going to allow me to escape this scam, it’s a scam trial,” he continued.
The Daily Mail reports that Judge Juan Merchan denied Trump permission to attend the Supreme Court next week for arguments related to charges against January 6th defendants for obstructing an official proceeding, a case which could impact his other criminal trials.
Trump asserted that this decision was part of a “political witch hunt” that “continues forever.”
“We’re not going to be given a fair trial,” the former president said. “He’s a very conflicted judge.”
“He won’t allow me to leave here for half a day go to D.C. and go before the U.S. Supreme Court because he thinks he’s superior, I guess, to the Supreme Court,” Trump asserted. “We’ve got a real problem with this judge and a real problem with a lot of things having to do with this trial.”
Trump also argued that being stuck in New York and unable to campaign across the country was “perfect for the radical left Democrats,” and “exactly what they want.”
The New York Post reported that Trump’s attorneys asked to excuse the former president next Thursday so he could attend Supreme Court arguments on immunity claims. However, the judge didn’t bite.
“Arguing before the Supreme Court is a big deal, and I can certainly appreciate why your client would want to be there,” Merchan said, “but a trial in New York Supreme Court … is also a big deal.”
The former president later took to Truth Social to rip the “corrupt” judge who wants him in court for the “bogus ‘Biden case’ during his son’s graduation ceremony.
Users on X shared there support of Trump following the news. “I never thought I would disrespect a Judge but F**** Justice Juan M. Merchan,” said Terrence K. Williams. “Barron Trump needs his father at his graduation! They are hurting Barron by doing this. Crossing the Line.”
“The Judges daughter worked for Kamala Campaign. ELECTION INTERFERENCE,” he continued.
Eric Trump weighed in on the developments, stating, “Judge Merchan is truly heartless in not letting a father attend his son’s graduation.”
“This is going to backfire huge,” lamented DC Draino. “The American people are sick of this Marxist tyranny.”
