FLASHBACK: Democrats Used Ukrainian Officials to Sabotage President Trump Heading Into 2016 Election

The following article, FLASHBACK: Democrats Used Ukrainian Officials to Sabotage President Trump Heading Into 2016 Election, was first published on Big League Politics.

In a bit of news that has become inconvenient for the pro-impeachment narrative, It was reported in 2017 that Ukrainian officials worked against President Donald Trump on behalf of Hillary Clinton and the Democrats in the lead up to the 2016 presidential election.

Politico issued the report that the fake news now hopes that the people do not remember:

Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump by publicly questioning his fitness for office. They also disseminated documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggested they were investigating the matter, only to back away after the election. And they helped Clinton’s allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers, a Politico investigation found.

A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

The Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort’s resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine’s foe to the east, Russia…

While it’s not uncommon for outside operatives to serve as intermediaries between governments and reporters, one of the more damaging Russia-related stories for the Trump campaign — and certainly for Manafort — can be traced more directly to the Ukrainian government.

Documents released by an independent Ukrainian government agency — and publicized by a parliamentarian — appeared to show $12.7 million in cash payments that were earmarked for Manafort by the Russia-aligned party of the deposed former president, Yanukovych.

The New York Times, in the August story revealing the ledgers’ existence, reported that the payments earmarked for Manafort were “a focus” of an investigation by Ukrainian anti-corruption officials, while CNN reported days later that the FBI was pursuing an overlapping inquiry…

And, almost immediately after Trump’s stunning victory over Clinton, questions began mounting about the investigations into the ledgers — and the ledgers themselves.

An official with the anti-corruption bureau told a Ukrainian newspaper, “Mr. Manafort does not have a role in this case.”

Ukrainian member of parliament Serhiy Leshchenko has sought to recast his investigation after the election.

And, while the anti-corruption bureau told Politico late last month that a “general investigation [is] still ongoing” of the ledger, it said Manafort is not a target of the investigation. “As he is not the Ukrainian citizen, [the anti-corruption bureau] by the law couldn’t investigate him personally,” the bureau said in a statement.

President Trump and his supporters are now reminding the public about Ukraine’s involvement with the Democrats and their work to undermine Trump heading into the 2016 presidential election.

“Once you understand that Ukrainian officials were cooperating directly with President Trump’s political opponents to undermine his candidacy, it’s easy to understand why the president would want to learn the full truth about these operations and why he would be skeptical of Ukraine,” Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) stated during the impeachment hearing o Wednesday.

The fake news now claims that Republicans are talking about baseless conspiracy theories for bringing up this Politico report from 2017. Bureaucrats engaging in the impeachment fervor are peddling that falsehood as well.

“Some of you on this committee appear to believe that Russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country and that perhaps, somehow, for some reason, Ukraine did,” said Fiona Hill, who once worked on Trump’s National Security Council staff. “This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services.”

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who works as Director for European Affairs for the United States National Security Council, told Congress that the notion of Russian interference is “a Russian narrative that President [Vladimir] Putin has promoted.”

Putin has commented on the matter and has said he hopes that the hoopla dies down because the circus is negatively impacting U.S.-Russia relations:

Regardless of Putin’s opinion, the news is clear that the Ukrainian interference did in fact take place. By denying their own reports, the mainstream media looks more phony and desperate than ever before.
