Since being sworn into office just over five years ago, New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has led a group of far-left House Democrats known as the “Squad.”
Yet according to the Washington Examiner, Ocasio-Cortez’s allies are gearing up to fight off an attempt at her removal.Â
Ocasio-Cortez says pro-Israel group is “no friend to American democracy”
At issue are concerns that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) will target Ocasio-Cortez and other Squad members over their hostility towards Israel.
The New York congresswoman attacked AIPAC in a social media post this past October, writing, “AIPAC endorsed scores of Jan 6th insurrectionists. They are no friend to American democracy.”
AIPAC endorsed scores of Jan 6th insurrectionists. They are no friend to American democracy.
They are one of the more racist and bigoted PACs in Congress as well, who disproportionately target members of color.

“They are one of the more racist and bigoted PACs in Congress as well, who disproportionately target members of color,” she continued.
Ocasio-Cortez went on to condemn the pro-Israel lobbying group as “an extremist organization that destabilizes US democracy.”
AIPAC remains “proud to engage in the democratic process”
The Examiner noted that Ocasio-Cortez is being backed by Reject AIPAC, which describes itself as “a broad coalition of progressive groups working together to take on the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and its affiliated dark money Super PACs across electoral, political, digital and organizing strategies.”
The coalition is composed of various left-wing organizations, including Justice Democrats, the Sunrise Movement, the Democratic Socialists of America, and the Working Families Party.
It alleges that AIPAC is a “hawkish, warmongering, and bullying force in U.S. politics” that has supported “human rights violations against Palestinians” as well as “insurrectionists” in the United States.
For its part, AIPAC told the Examiner that the group is “proud to engage in the democratic process to strengthen the US-Israel relationship.”
AIPAC endorses Jamaal Bowman’s primary challenger
In addition to targeting Ocasio-Cortez, AIPAC has also taken aim at fellow New York Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman.
Jewish Insider reported that AIPAC endorsed Westchester County Executive George Latimer’s primary challenge against Bowman.
“We are proud to endorse George Latimer who — in clear contrast to his opponent — is strongly committed to strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship and standing by our ally as it fights Hamas terrorism,” it announced.
