French radio Skyrock believes messages of peace do not sell

The radio station Skyrock, said however that the title does not fit in with their “editorial line” the rapper from Nice told Valeurs actuelles.

Messages of peace do not sell as well as those preaching the cult of violence. In any case, this seems to be the point of view of Skyrock radio.

On November 1, the indigestible “f*ck on the 17th” was released from the rap group 13 Block – in which a long list of anti-police cliches are heard.

Complete with lyrics about the “pig’s death” and “I dream of cops’ bodies”, the media has been surprisingly conciliatory about the release of this song. Other artists, with radically different messages, that do not include positive messages about drugs, alcohol or violence, have not had this chance.

Kaotik 747, the rapper from Nice, also discovered this in July, when he wanted to promote his clip “Project 18”. He had contacted Laurent Bouneau, director of programmes for Skyrock but was turned down very abruptly.

The French author of the video clip said he wanted to “educate young people about attacks on our firefighters and police” .

His initiative was well received by the conservative media, including 20 minutes, Le Parisien, Le Figaro and Nice-Matin – for a first clip it was seen more than 166 000 times.

The Alliance Nationale police union also contacted the director of Skyrock who, according to them, should not allow just a “one-way freedom of expression” but instead help to “fight anti-cop hatred”.

The radio station rejected their appeal. “This reasoning does not make sense, Skyrock has made a choice relative to its artistic appreciation of the piece, and to interpret it differently is unacceptable.”

The station added that “the police and firefighters were being taken hostage” to try to sell the rapper’s music.
