U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is convinced Apple’s smartphone monopoly is “ruining relationships” but her warning only earned her mockery online.
With all of the relevant issues facing Americans being buried by President Joe Biden’s regime, the non-emergency matter of green text bubbles was not high on the list for many. But Warren seems to think it is important enough to take the time out to record a video message that she posted to X.
It’s time to break up @Apple’s smartphone monopoly.
Also, c’mon, let’s stop leaving green text people out of the group chats. It’s just not right. pic.twitter.com/pr61Idf9yK

“Green texts on iPhones, they’re ruining relationships,” the Democrat said in the video.
“That’s right. Non-iPhone users everywhere are being excluded from group texts, from sports teams’ chats to birthday chats to vacation plan chats, they’re getting cut out. Missing out on plans and conversations. And who’s to blame here?” Warren asked. “Apple.”
“That’s just one of the dirty tactics that Apple uses to keep a stranglehold on the smartphone market.” Warren continued. “Apple has used its monopoly on smartphones to lock Americans into services and amass billions of dollars in profits.”
The senator claimed Apple has “blocked a new app that would have let Android users finally use iMessage and get those blue texts,”
The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil lawsuit against the tech giant last month, something Warren suggested was “the right thing to do.”
“Apple’s anti-competitive tactics also make it harder for non-iPhone users to message iPhone users,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a March press briefing. “We allege Apple is violating the law by creating barriers making it extremely difficult for developers to go outside the Apple operating system.”
*google* green text people:
“Green text messages on an iPhone indicate that the message was sent using MMS/SMS instead of iMessage.”so people are still getting the message but it has a green background and that’s a problem the government needs to fix…#FFS

“It’s time to break up Apple’s monopoly, now,” Warren concluded.
Online, X users added context to Warren’s claims, noting that “As of Jan 2024 iPhone has a 57% market share, to Android 42% in North America.”
Well this is awkward…… pic.twitter.com/nW7tnzPd1l

“A monopoly is exclusive control, or no close substitutes. The current market share of iPhone v Android does not meet that definition,” the reader context on X read.
Many X users believed their research and personal experiences cast a decided level of doubt on Warren’s claims.
FYI, I’ve owned smart phones for decades and not one of them was made by Apple.

Smartphone monopoly? Last I checked there were dozens, if not more, smartphones…
Perhaps you’re being left out of group chats because nobody likes you?

Green text people are the devil. Apple doesn’t have a smart phone monopoly, but Democrats have a dumb Senator monopoly
— Scottergate (@Scottergate) April 19, 2024
What smartphone monopoly? I’ve never owned an iPhone.

Yeah, last time I checked I have never had an iPhone and I have never had a problem getting in touch with the two people I know who do have iPhones.
I love my S23 Ultra and I had no trouble buying it at the AT&T store.

I can guarantee that this sounded just as stupid in the original smoke signals.

Many X users just found the Democrat senator’s priorities to be out of whack.
War in the Mideast and Ukraine.
High grocery and gas prices.
Spiking mortgage rates.
Runaway national debt.
Horrid border crisis.

And this is what you prioritize? pic.twitter.com/SKgpZwbpys

Mam we’re on the brink of global war and you’re on the internet going Karen over group chat inclusiveness.

I thought this was a parody account. Shockingly, you’re serious.
