Former President Donald Trump stood firm in defense of his controversial rhetoric on immigrants, asserting that it serves to stimulate discussion on crucial issues facing the nation.
In a recent appearance on Mediabuzz Sunday, Trump addressed the scrutiny surrounding his choice of words, particularly his use of the phrase “poisoning the blood” during a December rally in Durham, New Hampshire.
Critics had drawn parallels between this phrase and a quote attributed to Adolf Hitler, The Washington Examiner reports.
Trump, however, claimed ignorance of this historical association, stating, “I didn’t know that, but that’s what they say because our country is being poisoned.”
Trump then elaborated on his stance, highlighting concerns about the influx of immigrants entering the country from prisons and jails, including long-term criminals and individuals with severe sentences.
The GOP front runner emphasized the need to address this issue forthrightly, even if it means employing controversial rhetoric.

During the interview, Trump suggested that the increased media attention generated by his provocative statements can serve a positive purpose by drawing attention to pressing issues that might otherwise be overlooked.
“We can be nice about it. We can talk about, oh, I wanna be politically correct, but we have people coming in from prisons and jails, long-term murderers, people with sentences that the rest of their lives are going to spend in some jail and some country that many people have never even heard of,” Trump continued. “They’re all being released to our country.”
The former president argued that such discourse stimulates debate and brings attention to the unprecedented challenges posed by current immigration trends.
“It also gets people thinking about very important issues that if you don’t use certain rhetoric, if you don’t use certain words, and maybe are not very nice words, nothing will happen. That did stir debate, but it happens to be true,” Trump said. “They’re coming in at numbers that no country has ever seen before; it’s not sustainable, and in many cases, they’re not good people. And you have a new form of crime; it’s called migrant crime.”
