VIDEO: ‘In solidarity against terrorism’: Hong Kong protesters call off demonstrations on 9/11 anniversary

WASHINGTONEXAMINER.COM:

Activists in Hong Kong who have been protesting for months, called off demonstrations Wednesday in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks.

The call to put the pause on the activism was also in response to a Chinese state newspaper, which conflated protesters to the terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, according to Reuters.

The article goes on to state the following:

“In solidarity against terrorism, all forms of protest in Hong Kong will be suspended on Sept. 11, apart from potential singing and chanting,” the demonstrators said in a statement.

The “pause” comes after the Hong Kong edition of the China Daily said on its Facebook page, “Anti-government fanatics are planning massive terror attacks, including blowing up gas pipes, in Hong Kong on September 11,” Reuters reported. The China Daily included a picture of the attacks on the twin towers in New York.

“The 9/11 terror plot also encourages indiscriminate attacks on non-native speakers of Cantonese and starting mountain fires,” the China Daily added on the post. Protesters denied the plans.

One protester called the story “fake news,” adding, “The state media doesn’t care about its credibility.”
