The Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives is about to get even more narrow, as another GOP congressman has just announced he is calling quits.
Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado has served in the House since 2015. He announced in November that he would not be running for re-election in 2024.
However, Tuesday morning, Buck suddenly posted a statement saying he will not fulfill the rest of his term, and instead will be leaving Congress in less than two weeks.
“It has been an honor to serve the people of Colorado’s 4th District in Congress for the past 9 years. I want to thank them for their support and encouragement throughout the years,” Buck wrote.
“Today, I am announcing that I will depart Congress at the end of next week. I look forward to staying involved in our political process, as well as spending more time in Colorado and with my family,” he added.

CPR News explained:
A large number of Republicans are vying to replace Buck, including current 3rd congressional district Rep. Lauren Boebert, Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg, former radio host Deborah Flora and state Reps. Richard Holtorf and Mike Lynch.
Winning the vacancy election could give a candidate a leg-up in November’s general election, where they would be the incumbent.

Right after announcing his early retirement, Buck then jumped on CNN for an interview, and declared, I think this place is dysfunctional…Instead of operating in a professional manner, this place has devolved into this bickering and nonsense and not really doing the job for the American people.”

Reporters then swarmed House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said he was totally caught off guard by Buck’s announcement.

Buck was one of the Republicans who voted against impeachment for DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas.

In March, Buck had bashed former President Donald Trump and those who support him.
