A Sudanese migrant who came to the UK four years ago has been jailed for the savage murder of a young woman who refused to have sex with him.
On Thursday, a British court sentenced 29-year-old Karar Ali Karar to life in prison after he plead guilty to the murder of 21-year-old Jodi Miller in Leeds in February after the young woman had refused his sexual advances.
According to the Metro, the military-aged Sudanese migrant stabbed Jodi with a kitchen knife 15 times in a manner so violent that the knife he used broke into three pieces.
Karar was apparently on drugs at the time of the murder.
He was “so enraged and frustrated by her rejection that he decided, in his mind, to teach her a lesson to confront her and ultimately kill her,” Prosecutor Jason Pitter QC told a court in Leeds. Apparently, during the assault, Karar only paused once to kick his victim and to call her a “prostitute”
The grisly murder, which occurred in the home of the victim’s friend, was witnessed by two people who also happened to be in the room at the time. A 15-year-old boy attempted to stop the killer, but Kara threatened him and another person as well.
Karar was sentenced to life in prison by the court. At a minimum, he’ll be required to serve 25 years.
The migrant first showed up to the UK from Sudan in 2015 as an ‘asylum-seeker’. He first arrived in Newcastle but later moved to Leeds – the place where he ended Jodi Miller’s life.
The presiding judge said that Karar carried out the murder “in an explosive rage because she did not want to have sex with him”. Prosecutors described the way in which Jodi had been murdered as “extremely savage.”
According to Judge Rodney Jameson QC, “The attack lasted approximately three minutes.”
Jameson QC added, “Her death was not immediate and she was able to say she knew she was dying. Her suffering and terror can only be imagined.”
Karar’s defense attorney blamed the murder on drugs, alcohol, and Karar getting involved with a bad crowd.
Detective Inspector Victoria Glover of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team at West Yorkshire Police had the following to say in regards to the case:
“We welcome the sentencing of Karar today for what was a horrific assault on a defenseless victim. Her only provocation to him was to reject his unwanted sexual advances and for that, she was subjected to a savage level of violence which tragically resulted in her losing her life. Karar is a clearly an extremely dangerous man and we hope that seeing him convicted and behind bars may bring a measure of comfort to Jodi’s loved ones.”
“We are thankful they have been spared the ordeal of a trial, and wish to commend their bravery through what has been a hugely traumatic time,” added Detective Glover.
