The now-deceased man who set himself on fire outside former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial has direct ties to Democrats.
According to the late Maxwell Azzarello’s LinkedIn profile, he worked for current Democrat Rep. Tom Suozzi in 2013 when Suozzi was at the time running a campaign for Nassau County Executive.
His job duties included, among other things, preparing Suozzi for debates, drafting press releases, and overseeing Suozzi’s social media presence. Look below:
Suozzi has, to his credit, confirmed to the New York Post that Azzarello did indeed once work for him.
“Max Azzarello worked on my campaign for Nassau County Executive in 2013 as part of the field staff,” he said. “Even though I haven’t seen or talked to Max since then I recall him being very kind, smart and hardworking. It is tragic that he has succumbed to his injuries and I am keeping Max and his family in my prayers.”
The following year, 2014, Azzarello worked for current Democrat Rep. Ami Bera’s congressional reelection campaign.
His job duties this time included, among other things, performing donor research/outreach, managing “all online public communications,” and organizing public events for donors and volunteers.
“I recall that Max worked on one of my early campaigns,” Bera said in a statement after Azzarello’s death. “This is tragic news and my thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”
Azzarello’s LinkedIn also shows that he once worked for the Liberty Hill Foundation, a left-wing non-profit focused on “social justice.”
“Liberty Hill is a laboratory for social justice and social change,” the non-profit’s mission statement reads. “We leverage the power of community organizers, donor activists, and allies to advance social justice through strategic investment in grants, leadership training, and campaigns.”
“Liberty Hill envisions a society in which all people have a powerful voice, including those currently shut out of our democracy, people cut off from opportunities because they are poor, because of their skin color, because of their gender or sexual orientation, because of where they live, or where they were born,” it continues.
Not once did Azzarello ever work for a congressional Republican or right-wing nonprofit/think tank. Yet this fact hasn’t stopped the media from desperately trying to link him to the right and to Trump in particular.
Case in point:

In the clip above, ABC News’ Terry Moran seemed to suggest that Trump was responsible for Azzarello setting himself on fire.
“It seems then, that the gravitational pull of the Trump melodrama that has gripped the nation since he came down the escalator has now, it appears, resulted in someone coming to that where protesters have gathered and lit himself on fire,” he said.
He later doubled down.
“But the Trump era, which is what we have been living in since he came down that escalator in 2015 to announce his presidential campaign and changed American politics, raised it to a pitch of intensity, the — the style, the rhetoric, and the policies that — that he proposed is so different, so inspiring to some, so infuriating to others, that we are now as polarized the country as we ever have been,” he said.
“And the emotions around politics are ratcheted up to something that we haven’t seen at least since the 1960s in this country, where there was, you know, a good deal of unrest and turmoil,” he added.

The actual evidence so far strongly suggests Azzarello was simply an unhinged conspiracy theorist who reviled both parties.
The evidence includes his staunch belief that Trump, current President Joe Biden, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are secretly conspiring to “fascist coup” the country.

“Trump’s in on it,” he’d said prior to his death, according to The New York Times. “It’s a secret kleptocracy, and it can only lead to an apocalyptic fascist coup.”
