CBS News’s loss may soon be Elon Musk’s gain.
Investigative journalist Catherine Herridge, who was, to the shock of many, fired from CBS in a round of February layoffs, is now in “preliminary” talks with X to head up “an investigative unit that she could help put together,” according to a New York Post source.
The award-winning Herridge gained national attention with her fearless reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. A source “with knowledge” told The Post that X CEO Linda Yaccarino and she met at The Jefferson Hotel in Washington, DC earlier this month.
In a statement, X said it is talking to a lot of potential content creators.
“We are in discussions with many content creators who are interested in joining X in various ways,” the statement said, according to The Post. “Catherine Herridge is a great journalist who strongly supports free speech.”
“Herridge is weighing a number of opportunities,” a source told the outlet.
The news follows the fabulously awful Don Lemon debacle, which saw Musk cancel the fired CNN host after sitting down with Lemon for his premier interview.
Lemon took the opportunity to torch any hope that he might actually redeem himself as a serious journalist.

Rather than hold an honest discussion about current issues, Lemon attempted to corner Musk on his own platform with tired CNN talking points and quickly learned that mainstream media rules do not apply in the uncensored land of X.
Twenty-four hours later, the show was canceled and a defeated Lemon was crying on Instagram.
“Elon Musk has canceled the partnership I had with X, which they announced as part of their public commitment to amplifying more diverse voices on their platform,” he lamented to his followers. “He informed me of his decision hours after an interview I conducted with him on Friday. That interview will remain the premiere episode of The Don Lemon Show on Monday, March 18.”
Reports soon circulated that Lemon had made a series of outrageous demands as part of his X contract negotiations, including $5 million upfront, an $8 million salary, a Tesla cybertruck, a flight to Vegas on a private jet, approval rights over any changes to X’s new content policy, and more.
Lemon denied the claims and questioned whether his show failed because Musk has problems with a gay, black man.
Herridge, meanwhile, has been battling US District Court Judge Christopher Cooper, The Post reports.
Cooper held the journalist in contempt after she refused to “reveal the unnamed sources in a series of 2017 articles on a Chinese American scientist probed by the FBI,” according to the outlet.
For each day Herridge fails to divulge her sources for the articles, which were written for Fox News, she must pay $800.
While he “recognizes the paramount importance of a free press in our society,” Cooper wrote that the court “has its own role to play in upholding the law and safeguarding judicial authority.”
She is currently appealing that decision.
