Last week, a military-aged migrant from Syria was arrested in the south-west of France on suspicion of rape and murder after the body of a 24-year-old mom was found by authorities.
RTL reports that the naked body of the woman who has been identified as Johanna Blanes was discovered inside a small pedestrian tunnel close to the commune of Mont-de-Marsan at 6 am on Sunday morning, just hours after she reportedly left a nightclub to go back to where she was staying in Saint-Pierre-du-Mont.
Also according to RTL, the 24-year-old French mom was afflicted with a slight mental handicap, and as a result had been placed under a guardianship. Due to the disability, the 24-year-old had also lost custody of her 19-month-old son.
The body of the young woman reportedly showed signs of strangulation as well as signs of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. According to sources close to the investigation, the young girl was most likely raped before she was murdered.
Blanes’ friend claimed that the last time she had heard from her friend was at 4:40 am on Sunday morning, no more than an hour and a half before her body was discovered by a passerby.
Last Thursday, Olivier Janson, the prosecutor of Mont-de-Marsan, said that ‘at least two suspects have [now]been arrested’ in the murder of Johanna Blanes. The prosecutor’s office did not wish to comment on the exact number of individuals currently being held in police custody.
Johanna Blanes’ murder closely resembles that of 19-year-old German medical student Maria Ladenburger, who in 2017 was raped and murdered by 33-year-old Afghan migrant Hussein Khaviri in the small university city of Freiburg, Germany.
Before she read out the verdict and sentenced Khavari to life in prison, presiding judge Kathrin Schenk, in her final remarks, condemned the Afghan migrant’s extreme ‘lack of empathy’.
The murder of Johanna Blanes comes just a month after an illegal, military-aged Pakistani migrant was arrested in the French commune of Valenton for the murder of a 23-year-old student who was found dead in the trunk of her own car.
Three friends who were close to Johanna Blanes have mentioned that they plan on organizing a march on September 7th – two months to the day after her body was discovered.
