Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor who became famous for his affair and potential conflict of interest with Fulton county District Attorney Fani Willis, resigned from his position at Willis’s office on Friday.
The move by Wade comes in response to the judge’s verdict that Willis could remain on the case, receiving effectively a “slap on the wrist”—on the condition that Wade remove himself from involvement, so to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest.
“The furtherance of the rule of law and democracy has always been the North Star of our combined efforts in the prosecution of those who are alleged to have attempted to overthrow of the results of Georgia’s 2020 presidential election,” Wade wrote.
Willis responded by complimenting her former lover for his supposed “professionalism and dignity,” and claimed that Wade had “endured threats against you and your family, as well as unjustified attacks in the media in court on your reputation as a lawyer.”
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
